We have stayed at the st. francis on numerous occassions and love the proximity to shopping and shows around union square. the traditional hotel is nice (if you get a view of union square) and has a distinctive charm while the tower offers contemporary styled rooms with westin's distinctive charms. all in all, its a great location (walking distance to the cable car, restaurants, and shopping)
