Update ListingFor 20 years, it was the city's top lesbian hangout; now, The Flame sits mostly idle except for weekends. It's usually boy's night on Friday, girls on Saturday, with a Goth gathering every second Saturday. It's a great space, newly remodeled, with a large dance floor and cool neon out front.

Don't go to the (burned out) flame
Posted by SD Clubbear from san diego, CA on July 20, 2008
My friends insisted on dragging me out to this club last year and was shocked at how young and dumb the crowd was. at 27, i felt old. the music was horrible, service was crap.
fast forward to this year: the club changed owners, brought in new entertainment, and revamped the club a bit. the dj was something you don't normally hear or see in san diego - big, burly, not a pretty man like the other clubs and he played some fierce house music. he was dropping music that i normally hear in ny or overseas. the downside was that there was a small crowd there to hear him. we go back a few weeks later to find out the dj is no longer there. they replaced him with a young, thin, pretty boy (shocker) that can't play to save his life. i live around the corner and walk by a few nights a week, and i never see anyone in there, even on weekends. i normally see more staff than patrons and when you're in a major club like that, it's not a good sign.
my advice: stay away at all costs. save your money and go across the street to numbers. since the flame changed owners, it seems like numbers has all the crowd...
the flame's burning out - hopefully it gets replaced with a real club soon.
