Overpromise and under deliver

Posted by newlyweds092007  from Los Angeles, CA  on December 26, 2007

My husband and i had our wedding reception at the ritz in marina del rey in september of 2007 and the process was anything but exceptional, it was actually pretty mediocre. we had been set up originally with a coordinator that stood us up, and then were set up to partner up with the manager, who at the end of the day did pretty much nothing. i thought that when you paid the type of money we did that we would be amazed with how well they handled our special day, instead i made countless phone calls to even get a call back. we reserved a block of rooms and the phone number that our guests were instructed to call was the gift shop! needless to say, this was upsetting to us and our guests. on the day of our wedding our honeymoon suite was a disaster, dirty dishes from the morning were left there, it smelled like bbq sauce from the chicken tenders my bridesmaids had five hours prior, overall the room wasn't picked up! my husband was overcharged money and he left 2 messages to get this resolved and he's yet to get a call back after one month and now his amex is having to deal with the dispute. we think the place is beautiful but we would never rate them high on customer service...i don't think we'll ever recommend them or stay at another ritz carlton again!!!!

"i am writing from my room...where i stayed last night. it has been a miserable stay. the food and service at jer-ne were horrendous, and even the restroom was dirty and had no towels." --ronald walker, phoenix

Exceeded my expectations!

I stayed here recently and i was just blown away. the staff at the ritz-carlton marina del rey were exceptional in their customer service. we were celebrating my parents anniversary in jer-ne and the whole staff really made us feel special. the meal was amazing. i can't wait to come back!

Ritz carlton, marina del rey - no thanks!

Posted by V.Formica  from La Jolla, CA  on October 14, 2007

I live in la jolla (san diego ). a friend was flying in from florida to new zealand in sept. of this year & had a 24hr. stopover in l.a. we drove up to l.a. & did some furniture shopping & then met our friends for a visit & quick bite at the hotel. the table had not been cleaned from the last guest'. they brought our food without utensils & napkins. they never came back to check on us until finally we had to call for the check. by the way, for 2 hours of parking it cost 15.00 dollars. 2nd bad experience at a ritz....no thanks!!!.

Ritz carlton story reply

re: ritz-carlton, marina del rey, still in awkward years (sept 26., 2007):

having a wife who worked in a executive position for ritz carlton allowed me to closely watch the past twenty years of it's so. calif evolution.

she was very proud to work for them until having kids made staying home a better option 5 years ago. around that time marriott purchased ritz carlton and the decline began. marriott is a good company but ritz carlton was a great company. current executive level employees tell us the same thing from the marina to the pasadena and most certainly the monarch beach (dana point) properties. it's over. the "special" is gone and is not coming back soon.

not a single former or current employee who was around when ritz was ritz has a nice word to say. its sad, and apparently is getting worse.

thanks for the article.
