The Biltmore is one of those hotels that's worth a visit even if you're not staying here. Built in 1923 and encompassing an entire square block, this Italian-Spanish Renaissance landmark is the grande dame of L.A.'s hotels. Chances are you've seen it in many movies, including The Fabulous Baker Boys, Chinatown, Ghostbusters, Bugsy, Beverly Hills Cop, and Barbra Streisand's A Star Is Born. Excellent

Posted by Steve  from Sacramento, CA  on January 11, 2009

We stayed here one night largely to be close to union station for an a.m. departure on amtrak, and were pleasantly surprised not only by the hotel (and getting a complimentary upgrade at the desk made a difference) but the area, which was really active. it was right after xmas, and pershing park was filled, with an ice rink and band stage. the hotel itself was quiet, comfortable, and old-world luxurious. more than one preson remarked on its similiarity to the hotel in "the shining." the restaurants and bars are expensive, but there are plenty of low-cost alternatives in the area, from the grand central market to the original pantry, and lots of new restaurants, ranging from cheap to expensive, nearby. as the review says the hotel is worth a visit, even if not staying in a room.
