10236 Charing Cross Rd.

Los Angeles, CA

When this 5.5-acre estate was built in the late 1920s, it was just another house on the block. Hugh Hefner purchased the mansion in 1971 and it soon became party headquarters for the growing Playboy magazine empire. Playmates were notoriously ever-present, serving cocktails with the legendary "bunny dip" in their rabbit-eared silk corset uniforms. Stars such as Clint Eastwood, Johnny Carson and members of the "Rat Pack" were regular visitors. Those were the days.

Things mellowed at the mansion when Hef married and became a family man, though there was still the occasional bash on the grounds, which feature gardens, pools and a mini-zoo of exotic birds, iguanas, peacocks, hens and monkeys. There was, however, the notable absence of naked women in the pool.

Now that Hefner and his wife have gone splitsville, there' s no telling what will become of the mansion next. So grab a pipe and relive the legacy while you have the chance.
