This kind of hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint can be found all over California but not always so readily elsewhere. It's also the kind of family-run (since 1950) place increasingly forced out of Vegas by giant hotel conglomerates, making it even more worth your time (it's becoming harder and harder, particularly in Downtown, to find budget options that serve food that is more than just mere fuel). El sombreo cafe is delicous

Posted by Happy Eater  from Las Vegas, NV  on February 8, 2009

Really clean and freindly service. built down by the old union pacific train depot.one of the oldest continueously running resteraunts in nevada. great combo plates. ground beef tacos are awesome .so are the enchiladas. the service is friendly and good. they appreciate your business. the rice and beans are also great.kind of tex mex with some arizonia mex thrown in. more southwest than california mex food. like anyone 30 or over grew up on.
you get what you pay for here. great food at a decent price. lunch is great.you will enjoy it.

A relaxed pleasure

Posted by Banzai CB  from Ontario, CA  on August 7, 2008

Looking for glitz, glamor and gourmet? then el sombrero cafe is not for you. but for those who seek a place to escape the rush-rush and relax while enjoying good food in a fabulous atmosphere, this is the place. while the neighborhood may not be aces (especially after dark), don't let it prevent you from experiencing this truly wonderful place. the food is good, the portions plentiful and the prices modest. and you'll be hard pressed to find friendlier service anywhere in town! a great way to sate your appetite and renew your spirit.
