It isn't often you can brag about staying in a bargain-rate hotel room that features a 42-inch plasma screen TV. Mine had not one but two.

South Point (until just recently, it was called South Coast), advertises itself as "the gateway" to Las Vegas, but it is actually a 20-minute drive south of the Strip. It's too far from the action, and it's a $25 cab ride to get there.

But it's a great deal. It has an 80,000-square-foot casino with a 25-story hotel tow...

Bad idea

The issuee in this trip was not the fact that the hotel was far away from the strip, this was the least of my worries. i was hoping that the pepole there would try to make up for the ------7 mile------ journey away from the strip. ----they did not----- what was the worst was the arrogance and the pompous attitude the reception had toward us. they did not want to give us the room we reserved. this was a common mistake(as we travel alot, especially to vegs) and we did not mind too much. when thy said tha the room would be ready the next day, we were in shock. i was soooooooo unhappy. we stood there, right in the main lobby, arguing, until thy had to pull out the maneger, who we also had to argue with. turns out, when we ordered the room the day before, they sold it to another couple, and they happen to be leaving the next day. afterwards, they gave us a room in a different section of the hotel, which, at the time, was bieng sold for a cheaper price becouse they were building another section nearby. they had a jackhammer running to say the least. also, the hotel does not specify that ------they do not have a free service to the strip------we had to jump on to the hotels srvice, and if we had not sneake don, it would have costed10$ per person. we had 7 people with us. the hotel is a joke, scervice is terrible, and i suggest that you schoose an on-strip hotel, not the seven mile journey away from it

Depends on what you want

Overall, this is a beautiful hotel. the only problem is it is too far from the strip. if you are going to vegas to relax, and maybe gamble here and there, and have a drink here and there, and go to the strip once or twice, then this is the perfect place for you. if you are going to vegas looking for "action", you won't find it here. this hotel is laid back. the hotel is nice, the rooms are nice, and the prices are extremely nice, however, when i go back to vegas, i will not stay here again because i'm looking for the "action". if my mom goes with us, she'll probably stay at the south point because that's her speed. note: this is one of the few casinos who will give you free packs of cigarettes while you play at the gaming tables. alot of casinos have cut this out. pros: everything you would want in a hotel as far as service, ammentities, cost, & cleanliness cons: to far from strip boring atmosphere buffet not really good
