Sugar Bowl is an excellent place to ski -- especially if you are driving from the Bay Area or Sacramento on I-80 and don't want to drive all the way to Tahoe. This medium-size resort (13 lifts, 1,500 skiable acres) offers child care, ski school, snowboard parks, and lodging at the foot of the mountains. It was a popular getaway for the Hollywood set in the 1940s and '50s.

The best kept secret

Posted by snow crazy  from Irvine, CA  on March 11, 2007

Sugar bowl is amazing from the people (friendly and helpful) to the terrain (steep and deep) sugar bowl is a dream. it is deserted on weakdays but the resort has installed highspeed lifts for the weekend crowds. also those skiers who arn't yet ready for double black dimonds are sure to find groomed runs from the top of every lift. the apres is lacking at the resort but squaw is a short drive away. the lack of a village as an authentic flare to the place.
