In 2007, this wonderful, momentous property, Waikiki's first hotel, which dates from 1901 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, completed renovations (Westin's Heavenly Beds installed, new flatscreen TVs added), added the Westin Kids Club child-care program and started construction of a new spa, which will fill most of the second floor. It's hard to get a bad room here (even before the renovations) -- most bedrooms have ocean views and all come with be...

A step back in time...

Posted by hsleeny  from Irvine, CA  on January 3, 2008

Right in the heart of waikiki beach, the surfrider took me and my wife back to a byegone era when life was just a bit slower and the holiday on waikiki beach a true escape. true to the review, the historical architecture gives you a glimpse of how it might've been. we stayed at the renovated 'historical' wing, which is the original, main part of the hotel where the lobby is located. we had a side-way view of the beach overlooking the courtyard with a huge banyan tree. the renovated rooms were a bit smaller than other honolulu hotels but new, clean and fitted with a new bathroom (shower-only). if you want absolute quiet, rooms overlooking the courtyard might not be best as you can hear the hawaiian singers downstairs during evening hours. all in all, we had a wonderful x-mas at the moana surfrider. highly recommened. hsleeny - lat staffer

The staff at the front desk was friendly, but the maid service has got to go! they were so bad all they would do is make the beds. there was sand left in our shower from the night before and maybe 2 clean towles were left.
