Windsurfing kiteboarding paradise

Not a casual place to lounge around due to constant winds (check out what hurricane Iniki did to the old Coco Palms Resort across the Hwy), but there's plenty of empty sand and no development encroaching on makai side of highway. Head to Lydgate just south for calmer waters.

Great Pounding Surf

This beach is one of the most overlooked in Kauai, yet it is right on the main highway and readily visible. We have been going back for over thirty years, to walk the beach and enjoy the wild pounding surf. Nature keeps it clean and the locals love it. The state park provides a sheltered area for children to swim. The river area is interesting for beach combing. The north end is wild and beautiful. IWhen we make our last trip, it will be to this beach.
