Yosemite: Feasts and festive fun for Christmas week at Evergreen Lodge

Winter in Yosemite

Dreaming of a white Christmas but hesitant about airfare to Aspen? Then go ye to Yosemite National Park. The park interior is full of enjoyable options including heated tent cabins and less rustic lodge rooms, but more comfort for your dollar — as well as, perhaps, serenity — may be had outside park boundaries. You could try the Evergreen Lodge, one mile outside the park’s western border and Hetch Hetchy entrance, which is offering holiday-special packages full of festive events to appeal to families.

Deal: For the nightly cost of $315 per couple or $460 per family (two adults and one or two children ages 2 through 12), the “Christmas at Evergreen” package includes the following: cabin accommodations; a Christmas Day feast or, on another night, a three-course dinner; daily buffet breakfast; packed trail lunches; one guided recreation activity (hike or snowshoe walk; van tour available for an extra fee); a sunset hayride; a gift basket; holiday crafts activity for the kids; and evening campfires replete with s’mores. Prices are pre-tax, and a two-night minimum is required. If you’re staying three nights, you’ll receive all of the aforementioned plus an additional three-course dinner.

Holiday activities will fill the days and evenings leading up to Dec. 25. Among scheduled events are a tree-lighting ceremony, a “letters to Santa” afternoon and, quite unique, the decorating of Christmas flamingos. Guests are invited to open their gifts around the lodge fireplace on Christmas morning. For full details on this package (as well as a New Year’s week package) and the schedule of events, see the lodge’s website.

When: Good for stays Dec. 17-28, 2008.

Contact: Evergreen Lodge, (209) 379-2606
