Will Google buy Expedia? Dubailand; service at LAX

Universal City Dubailand

Good morning travelers! Friday is here. Make plans … or plan to do nothing, it’s all good. This week has been heavy with travel news. Did you get all of it?

The rumor mill | Is Google oogling Expedia? Travolution is tracking this gossip in the blogosophere. Meanwhile, Reuters represents some of the mainstream media offering speculation on the potential buyout.

Airline safety | The Federal Aviation Administration is back in the hot seat…

LAX | LAT columnist Steve Lopez discusses the baggage service at LAX after waiting an hour for his luggage. A heated thread is running in the comments about whether or not this was specific to American Airlines, or particular to LAX across the board. MBS said, “I have flown to several airports in the U.S. and internationally, and there is no doubt that LAX is a disgrace.” Do you agree?

London Heathrow T5 | An hour’s wait for bags at LAX is nothing compared with the lost luggage woes at Terminal 5. Ask Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Susan Spano.

Dubailand | Are you getting bored with the theme parks in our own backyard? Dubai is really far away, but I still want to go to Dubailand.

One question: How many days does it take to ride all the rides at a 107-square-mile amusement park? Since most attractions in the Vegas-like amusement zone aren’t scheduled to open until at least 2010, only time will tell.
