Here’s a fun little quiz to test your travel deal knowledge. Answers will be after the jump.

1. Is it cheaper to fly from LAX to Maui (OGG) or Bangkok (BKK) in August?

2. Who’s got the cheaper room deal on a Friday night, the Standard in downtown L.A. or the new Hotel Palomar in Westwood?

3. What costs more, booking a ticket over the phone or in person with Continental?

4. Is it cheaper for a family of three (two adults and one child) to go to Legoland or Disneyland for a day?

5. Is it cheaper to take the train from Union Station to San Diego or Santa Barbara?


Answers:

1. Kayak showed $788 as the lowest fare between LAX and OGG (Aug. 6-13); Kayak’s lowest fare from LAX to BKK was $1,187 for the same dates.

2. Hotels.com shows rates of $225 for the downtown L.A. Standard and $260 for the Hotel Palomar in Westwood on Aug. 8

3. The Ultimate Guide to Airline Fees quotes $15 for booking a Continental fare over the phone and $20 if you do it in person.

4. At the regular price, without any discounts or deals, Legoland comes out cheaper by $18.
Disneyland: $66 (10 years and over) and $56 (ages 3-9) = $188
Legoland: $59.95 (ages 13-59) and $49.95 (3-12) = $169.85

5. The round-trip price between Union Station and San Diego is $68 per adult. For Santa Barbara, the cost is $46.

    This is quite a retarded feature. I believe that anyone who sends an email with these questions has the ability to check prices on a website. And the results would be much quicker by checking yourself. Thank god for the elevated discourse enabled by the world wide web!

    How can you call it a true measure of your “travel deal knowledge” if you don’t take into consideration all the discounts and promotions that are available for the theme parks?

    Legoland will let you pack a lunch too, which would have saved my family the $30+ we spent on 4 hot dogs, 2 bags of chips and 4 drinks.
