What would you give up for a cheap flight?; Ewan McGregor’s new doc; Death Valley ultramarathon

On July 15, 1799, the Rosetta Stone, now in the British Museum, was found in Egypt. Fast-forwarding to the present, today’s travel-news circuit is also full of interesting discoveries and tidbits…though admittedly not anything that will be immortalized. Not yet anyway. The day is young.

Survey says | Would you give up restroom access during your flight if it would slash your ticket fare in half? According to a recent Travelzoo survey of 1,000 American adults, 40% of travelers would indeed give up restroom rights. In addition, 28% of survey respondents would stand during the flight, rather than sit, if that meant a 50% fare decrease. What would you put up with to obtain a lower fare?

Celeb travel | This morning Jaunted ran a post on actor Ewan McGregor and his documentary “Long Way Down,” about a motorcycle trip he took from Scotland to South Africa last summer. Check out the YouTube promo reel (above); it’s enough to get me daydreaming all day about road-trip adventuring in faraway lands. The doc airs on Aug. 2, 2008, on Fox Reality.

Extreme sports | See Los Angeles Times staff writer Mary Forgione’s post about the Badwater Ultramarathon. A 135-mile run departing from Death Valley, it kicked off yesterday. Be sure to look at the photo gallery on the post – it’ll make you oooh, aaah and sweat.
