A wearable sleeping bag?
Sure, it sounds dumb but it’s not that crazy. Instead of slipping into a sleeping bag and zipping it closed, you put on your sleeping bag, like a pair coveralls.
It’s called the SelkBag by Illinois-based Lippi Outdoor and the only downside is that anyone who wears it looks like the Pillsbury Doughboy.
But if you need to get out of your tent to, say, put more wood on the fire or get a drink, you can stay warm inside of your wearable sleeping bag. When you are ready to go back to sleep, just lie down anywhere.
The version we tested is filled with polyester fibers and is rated to keep you comfortable down to 32 degrees. It squeezes down to a 3.7-pound package, the size of a typical backpacking sleeping bag, though heavier. And, yes, it does have a panel that zips away so you can go to the bathroom without taking the whole thing off. (They make different versions for men and women.)
The price: $129.95, available through Amazon.com, Outdoor Premier Gear and other online sites. Other version of the sleeping bag — including a down-filled model — are expected out next year. Go to Lippi Outdoor for more details.
