I’m going to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego in a few weeks for a belated Valentine’s Day night out with my husband. Why the Hard Rock? Nobu. We love Nobu and haven’t been to the San Diego location yet. We’ve also been wanting to have a night out in the Gaslamp since we moved to Carlsbad last summer but hadn’t made the effort yet. Since this is my husband’s gift to me, he made all the arrangements. So, how proud of him was I that he bagged a terrific deal?
Deal: On the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel website, the Hard Rock King Suite was going for $269/night midweek (March 18). The cheapest rooms were $229. John got the suite for $189, pretax, and it also included a $50 credit at the Rock Spa. A savings of $80 on the room alone. The Studio King rooms were $169, pretax.
Caveat: When I checked Expedia this morning, the deal was already gone for March 18. So, I tried the following Wednesday (March 25) and was told that this hotel couldn’t be booked for less than two nights. Next I tried a Sunday night in April (April 5). The price went up even more to $329. Determined to find another deal at this hotel I turned to Kayak Hotels.
Bingo. Kayak found the original $189 deal for the King Suite at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego on Wednesday, March 18, via Orbitz and Cheap Tickets. However, they didn’t have the $50 spa credit. But, if you booked a Studio Queen room on Kayak via Hotels.com for $169, pretax, that did include the $50 spa credit. Note: taxes were $31 for the King Suite and $28 for the Studio rooms.
Bottom line: Shop around. And when you know you’ve found a good deal, pounce on it.

The sushi at the san diego nobu is average at best. There are much better places in San Diego to go for sushi like Taka. I have only been to the other nobu sushi in vegas and that is also average.

San Diego’s Nobu is the worst Nobu I have ever been to.
