Good morning travelers! Lets see what’s going on today. Are your plans set for Mother’s Day? How about for the long Memorial Day weekend?
Airline news | If United Airlines is not talking with Continental about a merger, it looks like they might be talking to US Airways about combining efforts. What’s your dream airline merger? Anybody worried about losing frequent flier miles or status?
More new travel costs | Delta is raising round-trip fares $10-$40 due to rising fuel costs. Don’t be surprised if you start to see additional flight costs labeled as “fuel surcharge.” American Airlines is adding a $25 fee for a second checked bag and Frontier is starting to charge $3 for in-flight snacks. Hmm…any guesses what “extras” fliers will be asked to pay for next?
SeaWorld Florida | In Orlando, a beloved female dolphin, Sharky, died after a collision during an aerial stunt, while visitors stood only 50 feet away.
Virginia | At least 200 people were injured as tornadoes ripped through Virginia Monday. Suffolk was one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods among the 25 miles of wreckage.

L.A. fires webcam | The Mt. Wilson Observatory TowerCam, maintained by the UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy, is currently facing south and refreshing every two minutes, capturing some stunning nighttime scenes illuminated by the Sierra Madre blaze that continues to burn northeast of Downtown L.A. — check back after 7:35 p.m. today.
