Virgin Vacations’ fly-stay London packages

London\'s Regent Street

London ain’t cheap now nor has it ever been. But the allure of this mammoth, attraction-packed city is just too strong to resist for some.

Fortunately, when there’s a will, there’s sometimes a way, especially in these deal-teeming days. With the following package, for instance, you can put together a centrally located week in England’s capital for a reasonable price.

Deal: With Virgin Vacations’ “6 Night London fling,” you can find a package as low as $599 per person to/from New York (JFK), $979 from Los Angeles (LAX). The deal includes your round-trip flight plus six nights of accommodations in London and daily continental breakfast. Hotel taxes and fuel surcharges are included in the price, but airport taxes and fees are not; per-person rates are based on double occupancy.

With the lowest-priced packages, your accommodations will be a double at the budget Apollo Hotel, which gets mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. A number of other selections — even the Ritz London — are available for higher prices.

When: Book by Jan. 9, 2009, for travel from Jan. 7 through March 22. Starting March 23, the package price jumps up a few hundred dollars.

Caveat: The package is nonrefundable, and nonchangeable once booked. Full payment is due within a day of booking.

Tip: As Los Angeles Times staff writer Jane Engle recommended in a recent article, don’t forget to check exchange rates often. Though a fluctuating exchange rate won’t affect your prepaid package price, monitoring the rates will help you strategize your on-the-ground budgeting in Londontown.
