Vail, Aspen, Santa Fe - $96 Rock Resorts too good to be true?

The Travelzoo Weekly Top 20 newsletter came out today. I usually take these deals with a grain of salt since travel companies pay to have their deals listed with Travelzoo, but the 96-hour sale for $96 at Rock Resorts caught my eye. I wondered if it was really possible to get a luxe resort for less than $100 per night.

Deal or no Deal? There are nine Rock Resort properties in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and the West Indies participating in the $96 sale. Rooms that normally cost $195-$495/night are on sale for $96 per night. The special is nonrefundable and available only by booking online with the promo code “96T.” Here are the participating resorts by location. Hurry, you’ve only got a few days to cash in — if these loss leader deals aren’t snapped up first by the newsletter’s 12 million+ subscribers.

Colorado: Hotel Jerome (Aspen), the Pines Lodge (Beaver Creek), Keystone Lodge & Spa (Keystone), the Arrabelle at Vail Square (Vail Square), the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera (Vail Valley), the Lodge at Vail (Vail Village)
New Mexico: La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa (Santa Fe; pictured)

When: Book by March 16 for travel Sunday through Thursday nights, April 13 through Nov. 13, 2008.

Tested: When I checked the $96 sale at the Travelzoo/Rock Resorts promotional page, I found that I could actually book $96/night rooms at La Posada in Santa Fe on Fridays and Saturdays too. Each of the resorts has its own available dates calendar which displays $96 dates versus higher rate dates. I found a classic room-king available Mother’s Day weekend (May 9-11) for the deal price. The total cost came to $236 after taxes and fees.
