The fall season is a perfect time to plan a getaway to the most popular national parks, which were booked and overwhelmingly busy throughout the summer. For example, take serene Zion Lodge inside Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, which stays open throughout the year, offering hiking, snowshoeing and other outdoor adventures even during winter.
Deal: With its “Awe-some Autumn” package, the Zion Lodge is offering 50% off room rates for the second night of your stay from November 1 to 19, 2007. Request promotional code BOGO when calling to make reservations; the code did not work for online bookings when I tried earlier today. Rates start at $166.31 for a standard hotel room, including taxes and fees. This package represents a 25% savings on a two-night stay.
The lodge’s “Zion in Winter” rates, which are available for stays Sunday through Thursday nights from December through mid-March, are a better deal. If you don’t mind Zion’s chilly winter weather, which can dip to just below freezing overnight, standard rooms start at $88.20/night, nearly 50% off the regular rates.
Have you stayed at the Zion Lodge? Rate it in the Comments section below.
When: The autumn lodging deal applies for stays November 1-19, 2007. The discount winter rates are valid for stays Sunday-Thursday nights from December 1, 2007, through March 13, 2008.
Caveat: The “Awe-some Autumn” package is not yet being advertised on the Zion Lodge website, although it was announced in a press release dated October 1, 2007.
Why Go: Zion Lodge has the only accommodations inside Zion National Park. Otherwise, plan on camping.
Why Not: There are plenty of B&Bs, motels and hotels with more amenities in the nearby town of Springdale.
Connect: There are two free Internet kiosks in the lobby of the Zion Lodge, but the last time I visited, one computer was broken, while Web browsing using the other one took an unusually long time.
Contact: Zion Lodge; for same-day reservations and availability, call (435) 772-7700; for advance reservations, call (303) 297-2757, (888) 297-2757.
