Universal Studios Hollywood unveils new annual pass

Universal Studios Hollywood All Access PassUniversal Studios Hollywood will jettison the long-standing “Buy a Day, Get a Year Free” ticket promotion in favor of a new All Access Pass offering unlimited admission and certain line-cutting privileges.

Turns out that the “free” year came with about a dozen blackout days (mostly Saturdays in July and August and a few days between Christmas and New Year’s). The All Access Pass is good 365 days a year (including Thanksgiving and Christmas).

The new annual pass also gets you into the express lane at the front entrance and priority line-cutting perks for the Backlot Studio Tour. Plus, you can buy tickets for your Access-less friends at a $12 discount.

The idea, of course, is to backfill the park with annual passholders who get in for free but leave their money behind on food and merchandise available at “discount” prices.

The 2009 All Access Pass will be available for $72 (or $5 over the cost of a full-price daily ticket) starting on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008.
