Universal Studios Hollywood will add a Transformers ride in 2011 featuring 3-D high-definition footage with special effects and robotics.
Scheduled to begin construction in fall 2009, the ride, based on the blockbuster 2007 film, would replace the Backdraft and the Special Effects Soundstages attractions at the movie theme park, according to Variety. The entertainment industry trade newspaper says the price tag for the Transformers ride could top the $40-million Simpsons Ride.
An identical Transformers ride is scheduled to debut first at Universal Studios Singapore.
Screamscape speculates that the new Transformers rides could constitute the next generation of Spiderman dark-ride systems at Universal Studios parks in Orlando and Japan, which mix in-your-face special effects and super-size 3-D projection.
In the ”Transformers” movie, which earned $708 million worldwide at the box office, the friendly Autobots battle the evil Decepticons, robots that can turn into cars, trucks and planes.
Steven Spielberg, an executive producer on “Transformers” and a creative consultant to Universal’s theme parks, previously developed rides and attractions based on “Jurassic Park,” “E.T.,” “Jaws” and “War of the Worlds.” A “Transformers” movie sequel opens in summer 2009.

Well although i must say im happy to hear a new ride finally coming to Universal, I wouldnt get to happy just yet lol. I consider myself somewhat of a vet since i have a annual pass and have been several times this year. If you have been on “Backdraft” or “The Special Effects” show, then you wont really be missing out on much. Backdraft is only fun when it is cold and the audio is terrible. The special effects show is a lil lenghty, but is more interesting and even involves some monsters and alot of audience participation. However, since Universal does not have room for any new rides, and the two best rides (Jurassic Park & my fav, Revenge of the Mummy) are also located at the bottom of the park, it only makes sense to add to the real fun of the park at the bottom. But like I said earlier, dont get too excited yet. For all the hypee of the Simpsons ride, its great if you a fan yes, but for us real excitement seekers, it was just an updated “Back to the Future”…literally. So hopefully they can come up with something that will really set the tone for Universal not just being a theme park, but a THRILL park as well. And if the rides is as good as it seems,I promise that I will come back to this very site in 2011 and personally eat my own words. See ya in the future!
