Don’t be so quick to ignore those frequent flier e-mails. They don’t all look alike or report the same mileage summary number, the one that never seems to be enough for the trip that you want to take. United sent me one that straight up said they’d added award seats from Los Angeles. Fly round-trip to San Francisco or Boston for 25,000 miles.
Destinations with additional award seats available in March:
Los Angeles (LAX): Boston (BOS); Newark, New Jersey (EWR); Oklahoma City (OKC); Philadelphia (PHL); London (LHR); Mexico City (MEX); and, in California, San Francisco (SFO), Santa Maria (SMX), Fresno (FAT) and Inyokern (IYK).
Destinations with additional award seats available in April:
Los Angeles (LAX): Boston (BOS); Colorado Springs, Colorado (COS); Fresno (FAT); Honolulu (HNL); New York City (JFK); Newark (EWR); Oklahoma City (OKC); Vancouver, Canada (YVR); Wichita, Kansas (ICT); and London (LHR)
Tested: Los Angeles to London in April cost 50,000 miles, Los Angeles to San Francisco in March would take 25,000 miles. Los Angeles to Boston in April was only 25,000 too. If you’re a little short, you can buy personal miles, or talk your friends into giving you some.
Caveat: Book your awards ticket with 14 days advance purchase or you could face charges of $50 for booking 7-13 days prior to departure, and $75 if you book six days or less to departure.
Tip: Play in the United Elite Team Contest to win 1 million redeemable miles, 50,000 Elite Qualifying Miles and 50 Qualifying Miles, eight confirmed regional upgrades and eight United Red Carpet Club one-time passes to share with three teammates.
