Travelogues 3.0: Can Zannel do it all?

Zannel tour pageI feel like a relic when I say that I wrote a travelogue at the turn of the century. I did, I wrote a travelogue for BootsnAll that I turned in by email, then it got edited, and finally after a few days it was uploaded it to their site. Then blogging came and all but wiped out the old style of web travelogues. Now, there’s Zannel, a new beta site that takes the concept of Twitter to the next level. Sharing your photos, videos—and yes, text. Just upload to your Zannel page from your mobile phone or a computer.

For the traveler: A traveler’s uses of Zannel are endless and obvious. Show off that you were at the Taj Mahal or dancing with the hot Brazilian at Carnival. Prove to mom that her Western Union transfer went to a safe hostel. Now you can visually let people know you’re safe and having fun without having to find a phone booth or purchase a calling card. But will you need a global Blackberry?

Examples: Zannel doesn’t quite have the global inventory that your instant gratification needs desire — yet — but there is a great shot of someone swimming with a whale shark off the coast of HolBox Isle, a guy who got gas for $1.11/gallon in Alabama, and is this a picture of a SMorse on the Great Wall of China? Obviously using Zannel to document your travels should at least come with a location.

Partnerships? The top three travel sites I hope will get an account on Zannel are Orbitz Traveler Updates, Gridskipper and HotelChatter.
