Top off-season fall travel destinations by CheapTickets

Beach of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, Florida

Though we’re still officially in summer, my travel mindset is now firmly planted in a more serious-minded fall, where it’ll take a darn good deal to get me to consider adding extra trips to my already-full schedule.

Thankfully for my travel-obsessed self, the darn good deals are rampant, at least in the hotels sector (flights are another story). If you just don’t know where to begin looking, get brainstorming with the help of CheapTicket.com’s new list of “Top Fall 2008 Off-Season Travel Destinations;” see the full report here.

The list - which focuses on beach destinations - does feature, no surprise, a handful of places where hurricane season could trump your trip plans. If you’re willing to risk it, you can find some significant accommodations deals. With rooms averaging $77.91 (pre-tax) per night, according to CheapTickets, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, tops the list of top off-season-deal destinations. It’s followed by Miami, Florida, and then Puerto Rico. There’s less of a gamble for good weather in San Diego, which holds the No. 8 spot on the list (with hotel averages of $111.32).

Following is CheapTickets’ full list:

1. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
2. Miami, Florida
3. Puerto Rico
4. Cancun, Mexico
5. Orlando, Florida
6. Riviera Maya, Mexico
7. Maui, Hawaii
8. San Diego
9. Jamaica
10. Oahu, Hawaii

Have you traveled to any of these spots off season, and if so, did you feel that your travel budget benefited? Can you recommend any other destinations for good off-season fall deals?
