The $6.5-million Tony Hawk’s Big Spin rotating roller coaster debuts to the public today at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom with a series of skateboard-themed events throughout Memorial Day weekend.
The two-minute-long family coaster features a modest 27-foot drop, a top speed of 31 mph and no inversions, according to Roller Coaster Database.
Television food star Guy Fieri made a celebrity appearance Thursday at the press preview, preparing “extreme” sushi to go with the ride’s theme.
Theme Park Village provides a nice round-up of the media event at the Vallejo amusement park-marine park-zoo as well as a comprehensive coaster construction photo gallery.
The About.com theme parks website offers a run-down of all four Tony Hawk coasters in the Six Flags chain — including rides at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio), Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington) and Six Flags St. Louis (Missouri).
