Good morning travelers! The travel news crossing my desk is a bit dark today…
Tibet: Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Ching-Ching Ni reports on the continuing mayhem and violence in Tibet. “Aides to the Dalai Lama have put the death toll at 80. There was no way to independently verify the conflicting tolls because Beijing forbids foreigners to visit Tibet without official permission.”
California: Last week we were talking about $4 gas in Hawaii, but $5 gas has hit the California coast. A gallon of regular unloaded in Gorda, just 35 miles north of Cambria, costs $5.20.
Nepal: The Mt. Everest summit will be off limits to climbers the first 10 days in May so that the Chinese can carry an Olympic torch to the summit. The full story is here.
Washington: But you can get a permit to climb Mt. St. Helens.
