This just in—Yapta can Twitter you when a flight price drops

Yapta.com, best known for finding you rebates after you buy your ticket, has a whole bunch of other features worth noting. They track airfare prices and let you know when they drop, tell you when award seats become available so you can buy your ticket with frequent-flier miles and — the latest tool made available today — send you fare alerts by Twitter.

How it works: Go to “Yapta settings” from the upper-right-hand of the home page, sign in and scroll down to Twitter Settings. Tell them your username and then select if you want the tweets to come to you by an @reply or a direct message.

Why you should change your settings: Even though I’m a huge Twitter fan, I’m not going to tell you to get your fare alerts via Twitter versus e-mail. For those who live and breathe Twitter (like me) there is a good chance they’d see a direct message pop up on their iPhone before they’d check their e-mail. In that case, they can find out about the price drop and jump on getting the ticket ASAP. But if you check your e-mail on your CrackBerry all the time, or you check your e-mail often enough for your taste, do what’s comfortable for you. Yapta adding Twitter settings is an alternate way to get airfare price drops to their users as fast as they can. And more ways of pleasing the customer is never bad.
