Demolition crews have begun to clear space for the new Six Flags Magic Mountain wooden roller coaster scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend 2009.
The Great Coasters International woodie will be built next to the Déjà Vu looping steel coaster and in the same location as Psyclone, a reviled wooden coaster mercifully removed from the Valencia amusement park in 2006.
Despite the outcry in Internet forums at the obvious incongruity, the new wooden coaster will almost certainly carry the futuristic name Terminator: The Ride, a tie-in with the upcoming movie.
Scheduled to premiere in May 2009, “Terminator: Salvation” stars Christian Bale in the fourth installment of the sci-fi franchise, directed this time by McG.

Intamins are great, when they work. GCIs work from day one, and they are fun.

I love El Toro as well, but that was one of the coasters that snuck in under the radar before Snyder’s takeover. There’s no way that in Six Flag’s current budget they could afford another one.
The GCI coasters are affordable, have a proven track record, and the newer designs are getting really good reviews such as Evel Knievel.

Theme Park Review has photos of grading work, survey markers and large stacks of wood at the old Psyclone location. (Hat tip to Screamscape.)

I’M VERY HAPPY THAT A GCI WOODIE IS COMING TO SFMM.
CAN’T WAIT!

One thing’s for sure, it will have a not-very-imaginative “typical” curving first drops always included with GCI woodies. For once I would like to see them build a truly GREAT first drop on one of their woodies as the track on the rest of their rides (following the curving first drops) are usually excellent.

I’ve never ridin a GCI coaster ever, but i must say that the lead car is the ugliest modern coaster car. But that aside I’ve heard many good things about there fast paced layouts. Whatever, I just hope it’s great.

this is the best news ever.. i waited a LOOOONG time to see if my dreams would come true.. thank GOD they didn’t choose a fake “safety woodie” like el toro.. if they had you’d basically have a mediocre hyper coaster on a wooden structure with square rails that people will praise because “it isnt like a wooden coaster”. magic mountain is getting a REAL wooden rollercoaster!!! .
