Swine flu travel update: Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian cruise lines cancel Mexico port stops

Mariner of the Seas

Carnival Cruise, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise lines have all decided to temporary suspend port calls in Mexico in light of the growing concern over the swine flu.

Carnival Cruise:  Carnival is canceling all calls to Mexican ports for current and future sailings departing Thursday, April 30th through Monday, May 4th. They are working on alternate itineraries and expect to have them (plus rescheduling information) available at 5 p.m. tomorrow. Here is their statement regarding swine flu. Royal Caribbean: Royal Caribbean’s four ships, Enchantment of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas, had scheduled stops in Mexico and are affected by the suspension. Two more ships scheduled to be repositioned, Serenade of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas, as well as Celebrity Cruise’s Celebrity Infinity, were also scheduled to make a Mexico port of call. All of these ships will make alternate ports of call or spend additional time at sea. Royal Caribbean International’s Mariner of the Seas (pictured) will have a completely revised itinerary.

Norwegian Cruise: Norwegian only had one ship in a reposition cruise. The Norwegian Pearl’s final two calls in Mexico had been scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, and Friday, May 1, 2009. Their schedule does not include any other ports of call in Mexico until the end of September 2009. Here is their travel advisory regarding swine flu.

Please advise. We are booked on Liberty of the Seas for Mexico-(Conzumel) Belize and (Costa Maya) n 29th Nov for 7 days. In the light of the current swine flu problem, is the cruiseline considering re-routing or giving credits to customers?
