Good morning travelers! Here’s what’s hot in our travel corner of the world…
Spring break! In Los Angeles, the USC Trojans have next week off (March 17-21) while their crosstown rivals, the UCLA Bruins get the week of March 24 off for spring break.
So, where are the kids getting their party on? Some of this year’s hot destinations are Acapulco, Mexico; Panama City Beach, Florida; Las Vegas; and Lake Havasu, Arizona. Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Christopher Reynolds gives us the humble history behind this collegiate right of passage.
But before you go out and buy a disposable phone number for the end-all, be-all of booze-fests, check out the actual numbers for how many students are really drinking heavily on spring break.
Ladies, have you ever been groped on a public bus? Even a lingering leer can be uncomfortable to some of us. Mexico City listened to the complaints of their women. Now they run women-only buses. Fifty-five of Mexico City’s 1,300 buses are restricted with 24 more coming soon. But they’re not the only cities catering to women’s needs. Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Cairo also have women’s-only transit.
Other travel blogs are taking notice that our new captain, Tony Pierce, is sending in his travel bytes from SXSW in Austin, Texas. This Just In pointed to Tony’s post about ads on tray tables. You won’t want to miss his restaurant review of Roux. Mmmm…Cajun!
