The Hawaii Tourism Authority has contracted with Hawaiian Airlines to schedule special round-trip flights Monday and Wednesday between Honolulu (HNL) and San Francisco (SFO) to help travelers who were stranded by the sudden shutdown this week of Aloha Airlines and ATA Airlines.
Travelers can make reservations on the flights after noon today via HawaiianAirlines.com/kokuafare, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s website (www.gohawaii.com). This is the first time the authority has ever chartered flights for tourists who find themselves stuck on the islands.
Flight 1012 leaves Honolulu on Monday and Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. and arrives in San Francisco at 10:15 p.m. (The best fares available for the same one-way routing on Tuesday [HA12], leaving an hour earlier, was showing up as $597/$875 pre-tax for coach/first-class on a Saturday morning search of Hawaiian’s website booking engine.)
Flight 1011 leaves San Francisco on Monday and Wednesday at 11:35 p.m. and arrives in Honolulu on Tuesday and Thursday morning, respectively, at 1:45 a.m.
Passengers will need to show an ATA or Aloha airline ticket or confirmation number to take advantage of these flights, the website says.
The tourism authority website’s special ATA page (www.gohawaii.com/ata) also includes links to Hawaiian, Delta, Northwest, United and U.S. Airways that have ticket offers for passengers who had tickets on the now defunct ATA.
As of Friday, the tourism authority estimated about 9,000 visitors throughout Hawaii were affected by the airline shutdowns.

I have 3 tickets issued by Hawaii Airline flying back on May 29/08 from Kuhului via Honolulu to Las Vegas. The Honolulu leg is with ATA but keep in mind the tickets are issues by Hawaii Air. I contacted them today April 5 and was told that I need to buy a new ticket, to cover the ATA portion (price has doubled) and they will not refund the ticket. That is stealing. What a serious lack of ethics and morals. This is my first dealing with Hawaii Air and the last.
