Southwest Airlines seats on sale through May 2008

Even though we continue to hear from parents swearing off Southwest for their new pre-boarding rules, I know that there are also plenty of travelers who look forward to SWA fare sales. Here’s the first SWA nationwide sale of 2008. There is a long lead on the deadline so you’ve got time to celebrate the New Year before planning a spring break. I’ve tested fares to Austin, Texas, for South by Southwest, Chicago to see a baseball game at Wrigley Field and the Bay Area for Valentine’s Day.

Deal: One-way Web-only fares from $49 to $99 each based on 14-day advance purchase (pre-tax). Fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday to get the lowest fares, but flying on a Thursday or Saturday is still cheaper than flying on a Friday or Monday.
