Southwest Airlines: Mini skirts & mini fare sales

Southwest.com logoHey, when telling a passenger her skirt is too short gets widespread attention, why not throw a national “MiniFares” sale in with your apology? Southwest Airlines has a good sense of humor, and luckily so did Kyla Ebbert who modeled the outfit in question on the Today Show last week.

“The publicity caught us with our pants down, quite frankly. The story has such great legs, but we have an even better sense of humor, so we’re going to jump out there and lower our fares to match the mini skirts we’ve all been hearing so much about,” said Southwest’s CEO Gary Kelly.

Deal: Take advantage of SWA’s minifares with one-way tickets from $49-109 with 14-day advanced purchase (pre-tax). To get the low fare you have to fly on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday.

When: Book by Sep. 24, for travel beginning Sep. 28 through Nov. 15, 2007

Sample Round-trip Fares (including taxes and fees):
I was able to find the following fares in October or November

Flight Attendants Sported Hot Pants in the 70s BUR to Chicago, IL (Midway) — $229
BUR to Austin, TX — $250
BUR to Phoenix, AZ — $119

LAX to Las Vegas, NV — $118

Hurray for Mr Gary Kelly. Go miniskirts. As the mother of a flight attendant, I don’tlike that my child has to be the fashion police. I do not like vulgar tee shirts and i mean the nasty vulgar writings on the shirt. That should be address before they ever get to the gate. What a great marketing tool.

Aren’t these the same prices as before. I booked my San Diego to Las Vegas flight a month ago and it was $118.00….What is the deal here?

  3. Andrew Says:

One irony I see here — among many, to say the least — is that, according to Southwest’s website, “Orange County, CA and Hawaii are not included in this sale.”

So, to recap, Ms. Ebbert is from San Diego and has been compensated for her troubles with two free Southwest tickets. BUT the MiniFares sale excludes what, at somewhere around 87 miles from San Diego, may one of her home-base airports.

Let’s hope that if Ms. Ebbert should decide to try to use her free tickets for a flight departing SNA that Southwest would honor her vouchers.
