Southwest Airlines halts Jacksonville service because of tropical storm Fay

Flooding in Jacksonville, Florida, due to Tropical Storm Faye

Southest Airlines today halted flights to Jacksonville, Fla., because of flooding from tropical storm Faye, according to the airline.

“Faye has been a very unpredictable tropical storm,” says Southwest spokeswoman Olga Romero. “We are watching out for our employees and our customers.”

Updates on the status of flights for Saturday will be posted on Southwest’s website at 3 p.m. PST today. Romero advised passengers to check the website frequently for updates and to call reservations at (800) 435-9792.

Flights continue as usual to and from Orlando, Fla., the airport closest to Walt Disney World and other theme park attractions, according to Southwest’s website.

Passengers holding tickets to or from Jacksonville through Saturday who want to change their tickets may rebook or fly standby without paying any additional charge. Call Southwest or go to the website.
