Southwest Airlines just put up one of the best deals for fall travel: one-way fares for $30 to $90 plus tax, depending on trip length. But you’ll need to act quickly. The sale ends Wednesday night, July 8.
The deal: You must book online at the regular Southwest website or its business travel website by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific) Wednesday, July 8, and travel between Sept. 9 and Nov. 18. The one-way fares offered are $30 plus tax for flights up to 400 miles, $60 for flights between 400 and 750 miles and $90 for flights over 750 miles.
The downsides: You can’t get the deal on Fridays or Sundays, Southwest says, and on other days, there’s limited availability.
For instance, when I checked Sept. 30-Oct. 5 round-trips between Los Angeles (LAX) and New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) airport this morning, Southwest’s website displayed $90 fares for one-stop outbound flights and $169 fares for all the returns except a two-stop flight at the end of the day, priced at $90.
Notice that the deal doesn’t cover travel over Labor Day weekend or any time near Thanksgiving, when high demand usually pushes up fares.
The upshot: This is a super deal if you’re flexible on dates and flights. For instance, on the dates and destinations checked above, the cheapest one-way fare shown at Kayak.com was $134 plus tax.

I HATE Southwest Airlines. I’ll gladly pay more NOT to fly them.

How can you hate Southwest? Cheap fares all the time, decent service, hardly ever any delays. I fly them all the time and am very happy with them.

I agree w/ Dexter. When I purchase a ticket, I want to be able to immediately pick my seat & know exactly where I’m going to sit. I don’t like having to set an alarm 24 hrs in advance to make sure I get in the 1st group. Whenever I would check to see if SW’s flights were cheaper for let’s say LAX to DCA RT, it wounded up not being the case. I will gladly pay sometimes up to $50 more for convenience.

I can easily dislike Southwest too. Flight attendants who sing and tell stupid jokes isn’t my idea of a good time.

Some people just love to hate. Pay Dexter no mind. Southwest is a great airline, the closest thing to old, much lamented PSA.
