I spoke today to Six Flags President and Chief Executive Mark Shapiro who was in Qatar where he announced plans for a $300-million resort including an amusement/water park, luxury hotel and spa.
Located along the Persian Gulf, the indoor-outdoor 11-acre Six Flags property — much smaller than most amusement parks — will feature thrill rides, roller coasters, water slides, family entertainment and plenty of air conditioning.
An hour’s plane-ride away in Dubai, Six Flags already has a much-larger amusement park project in the works. The 60-acre Six Flags Dubailand will feature 30 to 40 rides, including three to four major coasters. While no rides have been confirmed, Shapiro did say Dubai would be getting major coasters on the order of Kingda Ka, El Toro, Nitro and X2.
Six Flags also expects to announce expansions in Korea, China and India soon, Shapiro said.
More on Six Flags Magic Mountain after the jump.
Closer to home, Shapiro said Six Flags Magic Mountain will be getting another roller coaster in 2010 and a Wiggles World kiddie land sometime after that. Shapiro also said that if Terminator Salvation: The Ride proves popular at Magic Mountain when it opens in May 2009, the wooden coaster would wind up at another Six Flags park in 2010.

Great news, because Doha is the most boring city I’ve ever visited. I wonder if the park will be open during the month-long Ramadan, because surely visitors will want to eat and drink during the day.
