Six Flags Magic Mountain to announce Terminator wooden coaster

Terminator: The Coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Six Flags Magic Mountain will officially unveil plans this week for Terminator: The Coaster, a $10-million wooden roller coaster scheduled open Memorial Day weekend 2009.

The 2,850-foot-long coaster with Millennium Flyer trains will include a 100-foot lift, five hills, six banked turns as well as visual and audio effects and a loading station fly-through. The three-minute start-to-finish ride reaches a top speed of 55 mph.

The Great Coasters International woodie will be built next to the Déjà Vu looping steel coaster and in the same location as Psyclone, a reviled wooden coaster mercifully removed from the Valencia amusement park in 2006.

  1. Nick Says:

Stop ruining their announcements. Just let Six Flags *OFFICIALLY* announce it before you shoot it out there.

  2. England Vacations Says:

This ride sounds absolutely wicked, no doubt I will be going on that if given the chance. The picture looks awesome, if the ride looks kind of like that they are on to a winner.

  3. Jake Says:

I dunno, I kind of liked Psyclone. But, of course, there’s always room for improvement.

  4. Jorge Says:

A wooden coaster for the Terminator? Isn’t that completely at odds with the metal-based nature of the Terminator robots?

That would be like a Star Wars coaster located underground, or a haunted house coaster outdoors.

  5. Jacinto Buenaparte Says:

Six Flags needs the Disneyland version of the Fast Pass if they want to bring people back. What’s the point of paying $60 for 3 rides on a hot summer day.

  6. Jon in LA Says:

Why would a wooden roller coaster be named after the Terminator? When I hear the word Terminator, I think of a world of metal everywhere. Horrible name for a wooden coaster.

  8. Tim from Orange Says:

Magic Mountain has never quite got-it-right in the theming department. The name was chosen to coincide with the release of the upcoming Christian Bale Terminator movie next year. The name is a big “Huh?” for a wooden coaster, but Psyclone had to be replaced! It was newer than Colossus, yet Colossus is a better coaster than Psyclone could ever be. Jacinto is right about a system similar to Disney’s FastPass. They have their own version called Flash Pass, but it will cost you extra money and is only eligible for a handful of rides. The other problem with this park is the management. I don’t see any evidence of it!

  9. Nick Russo Says:

Wow Thats Crazy I’m Gonna Call It Psyclone 2 It Look’s Like It Lol But Really This Thing Is Crazy I’m Very Excited For This,Six Flags M-M Really Needed Another Woodie And This Is Perfect I can’t Wait To See It Constructed And Runnin’ Especially The Station Fly Bye Damn This Ride,Crazy…

  10. Will Doty Says:

Tim, Do you know the managament at SFMM? I do, and let me tell you the changes that have come about since Jay Thomas have been unreal. There is a general excitement about SFMM that hasnt been there in years. Jay and his staff showed us (a group of enthusiasts) an incredible time and actually closed the park, and opened all of the rides to a small group.
After meeting and touring the park behind the scenes with Tim Burkhart (GM) I can tell you that Magic Mountain is under very capable and experienced management.

  11. The Coaster Critic Says:

I agree with the mismatch with regards to theming a wooden coaster after Terminator, but this looks like a solid ride. Terminator: The Ride will have some strong ‘bloodlines’. As a GCI coaster it could be as good as Kentucky Rumbler, Renegade or even Dollywood’s Thunderhead. SFMM fans should be very, very excited!

  12. Jazmin Says:

OMG… THIS RIDE LOOKS AWSOME!! I WILL ABSOLUTELY GO TO SIX FLAGS THIS SUMMER TO ENJOY THIS NEW RIDE!!
