Sierra Club’s ‘How Green Is My Getaway?’ quiz

Is there such a thing as flying green?

“Does it really matter whether I take a plane or train or drive? That plane’s going to fly even if I’m not on it.”

“How do commercial airplanes, trains and cars rank from most to least efficient per passenger mile?”

“When one must fly, does it help to buy so-called carbon offsets?”

Think you know the answers to these questions typical of travelers seeking to reduce their environmental impact? To test your know-how and probably come away with useful new knowledge, take a couple of minutes to complete the Sierra Club’s “How Green Is My Getaway?” quiz.

There are 10 multiple-choice questions, and it’s hassle-free: You don’t have to register any name or e-mail address details on the site. Half the fun is the journey, I think, but if you don’t agree, you can even skip the quiz and go straight to the answers.

I’m a sucker for quizzes, so I couldn’t help but kill a little more of my scarce time with the site’s other “How Green Is My” pages (fill in the blank with PC, screen, bike ride or laundry).

My “green PC knowledge could use a little bit of defragging,” said the results page, though I was saved from feeling like a complete enviro-knucklehead by my laundry performance, where I’ve been deemed a “clean, green machine.”

Gotta start somewhere, even if it’s with the dirty laundry.
