The Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California that was supposed to open in July, eventually opened in August, suddenly closed in November and will finally reopen on Saturday with assurances that this time it’s open for good.
The 36,000-square-foot, separate-admission aquarium rushed to open for the summer crowds (missing most of them) only to close after only three months of operation to “remodel and renovate” the brand-new facility.
The problems were largely unfinished cosmetic touches that required the closure of both the entrance and exit — making it impossible to get visitors in and out of the aquarium.
The additions include a King Poseidon welcome video at the entrance, a sand-castle-building area and a tree slide plus more sea creatures in the touch pools. Also new: a pair of 6-foot-long zebra sharks and 40 cow-nose rays that swim in a school.
After the six-week closure, Sea Life reopens Saturday at noon and officially returns to normal operating hours on Monday — just in time for the Christmas crowds.
