Business is back to normal in Santa Barbara, and the city’s waiting for you with open arms. According to Kathy Janega-Dykes, president and chief executive of Santa Barbara Conference & Visitors Bureau, the skies downtown — an area untouched by the Montecito fire — are gorgeous at present. “It’s very clear, the sun is out, blue skies,” she said. “All of our attractions are open as well as our hotels.”
The Montecito fire reportedly was 95% contained, as of Tuesday. So with the coast clear, so to speak, have a think about the midweek holiday-shopping deal at one of the following two hotels. They offer a fun and convenient way to combine your browsing-and-buying with a quick getaway to Santa Barbara.
Deal: Current packages at Country House Inn (formerly known as Tiffany Country House) and the Upham Hotel & Country House are geared toward the “spontaneous midweek shopper,” but you don’t necessarily need to shop to take advantage of a last-minute midweek offer. If you wake up with an impulse to skip town, call one of these hotels before noon on your intended day of arrival, and you’ll get a special rate if there any available rooms.
At Country House Inn, where rooms generally range from $220 to $300, you’ll pay just $155 per night (pre-tax) for the best available room (except the penthouse). A few doors down at the Upham — under the same management as Country House Inn — you’ll usually pay $220 to $350. But under this last-minute deal, your price would be $165 (the penthouse and master suite are exempt).
When: The offers are valid at both establishments for stays Sunday through Thursday, now through Dec. 25, 2008.
Contact: Country House Inn, (805) 963-2283; The Upham Hotel & Country House, (805) 962-0058.
