Santa Barbara: Bite into these fall festivals

As fitting for such a palate-pleasing city, Santa Barbara and its surrounds will be offering up some tasty festivals this fall. To celebrate good harvests — and to stuff yourself silly — check out the following events, starting this coming weekend with the California Avocado Festival.

Carpinteria
When you’re not crawling between the 30-plus food booths, take in the entertainment, arts and crafts, and other family-friendly attractions.

Celebration of Harvest
Oct. 11, 2008
Santa Maria
This afternoon event will be in the Santa Maria Valley at Rancho Sisquoc Winery. Expect fine food, even finer wines, live music and a silent auction.

Harbor & Seafood Festival
Oct. 11, 2008
Santa Barbara
Coinciding with the start of lobster season, this festival will offer you the chance to sample seafood locally caught in the Santa Barbara Channel, from rock crab to thresher shark. Meet fisher-folk, watch live jazz and rock, shop for gourmet foods, eat and be merry.

California Lemon Festival
Oct. 18-19, 2008
Goleta
It should be far from a lemon of an event, promising pie-eating contests, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, amusement park rides and a classic-car and street rod show.
