As a traveler, I hold a special affection for buskers. After all, they are street performers on the go, setting the rhythm for our own ventures into the world. Without demands for money (rather, usually just an encouraging smile, nod and/or coin-hungry hat), they provide sound or eye candy as we head toward the Eiffel Tower, as we stroll through Greenwich Village in New York City, as we bustle through Tokyo’s Shinjuku, as we step out of our hotel in San Francisco.
Buskers are the ultimate travelers’ performers.
And they’ll soon be present en masse for us to enjoy during the Spring Busker Festival in San Diego’s Seaport Village. Admission is free, though buskers will be accepting tips.
The many performers will include a “hang drum” player who performed her way through Europe, a San Diegan and longtime juggler, and a stunt-act duo Project Dynamite.
When: May 10-11, 2008 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Contact: Seaport Village, (619) 235-4014
