San Diego: Free rooms and other goodies from Twitter-’mad’ GM

Rancho Bernardo Inn

Somebody stop this man. John Gates, general manager of San Diego golf resort Rancho Bernardo Inn, has been tweeting under the username “GMGoneMad” for a relatively short while, but some of his updates have been literal giveaways of rooms and food. Examples:

Posted April 20, 10:45 a.m.: Hot weekend in So Cal. First guest to pull up in vehicle that doesn’t have AC wins free gift cert for a Stay - as we have AC (and 3 pools) :)

Posted May 4, 9:03 a.m.: Happy Monday, full Resort today :) And my daughter’s Birthday. Anyone bring in a cake, receive free dinner for two in Veranda tonight.

And an offer posted late Friday afternoon is the “Survivor” package: A room without breakfast, honor bar, A/C, heat or even pillows for $109 per night.

If you’re thinking about a stay at this North San Diego County resort anytime soon, it’d be worth following @GMGoneMad to see what he’ll throw out to Twitterers next. Free spa treatments? Discounted green fees? More free nights?

[Update: The $109 deal noted above became a better -- or at least, more interesting -- deal. Posted Friday evening, the "final" offer was this: "$19 without breakfast, honor bar, A/C, heat, pillows, sheets, lights, linens, toiletries or bed!"]
