Los Angeles isn’t the only Southern California city fighting fires. San Diego is making progress on its own fire fight in both the north county and east county. Here is a quick status report on the Juliet, Campo, Santee and Escondido fires. Note that I-5, which was closed earlier near Camp Pendleton, was reopened midday between Las Pulgas Road and State Route 78.
Oceanside/Camp Pendleton | The Camp Pendleton fire which started Monday afternoon and burned 3,000 acres is also being called the Juliet fire. Early this afternoon the fire was 25% contained. The fire forced 4,000 residents both on base and off to be evacuated, but Monday afternoon they were told they could return. The San Diego Union-Tribune has a list of school and road closures. Check out its newsblog for the most recent info on all San Diego fires.
Campo | Also called the Shockey fire. Firefighters got the upper hand on this fire Monday morning.
Santee & Escondido | While these fires are in different parts of the county, I’m grouping them because the fires were small and have been put out. Read: Escondido fire out, outbuilding damaged and Freeway bridge fire won’t delay Route 52 extension
Traffic reports | Traffic.com San Diego Traffic Reports show that there is a closure in Campo. CA-94 is closed between Buckman Springs and La Posta roads due to fire activity; fire department and police on the scene, evacuations in progress; long-term closure.
