Roundup: United asking heavy passengers to buy two seats or upgrade; tax-day deals in Napa, San Diego, San Francisco; Topanga for Earth Day

Airline news | No one is using the word fat, but if you “are unable to fit into a single seat in the ticketed cabin; are unable to properly buckle the seatbelt using a single seatbelt extender; and/or are unable to put the seat’s armrests down when seated,” then you will be asked to buy a ticket for an additional seat, or buy an upgrade to a cabin with seats that address the above-listed scenarios. And if you don’t, you will “not be permitted to board the flight.” But wait — what if you don’t know whether you can or can’t fit until you board the plane and test it out? Here’s United’s page on passengers requiring extra space.

Tax-day deals | Shell Vacations has tax-day deals for weekday stays in Napa, San Francisco, Anaheim, San Diego and Las Vegas. Rates for this deal start at $69 per night (pretax). I checked out the website and liked the photos of the rooms at Vino Bella Resort in Napa more than I did those at San Diego’s Harbour Vacations Club. Note: I found rooms for $79 per day for Vino Bella, and there was a $15-a-day fee as well as $9 in tax. Book by April 22 for stays through May 31. Contact: Shell Hospitality Blog.

Local | What are you doing for Earth Day? Topanga is throwing a big party and a communal creek cleanup. Read: Topanga throwing Earth Day party this weekend.
