Good morning, travelers! I hope the work week went by fast for you. Let’s find some things for you to do in Southern California this weekend.
Local | Labor Day might be upon us, but if you don’t want to give up your summer just yet, dive into the party at some of L.A.’s 10 hottest poolside bars. Metromix has a photo gallery of the Hopscotch Lounge, Blue Velvet, the Backyard at the W Hotel, Skybar, Viceroy, Tropicana Bar and more.
Airline news | Fees, fees, fees. It seems like all we hear about these days are canceled flights and add-on fees. Thursday, United Airlines said it was charging up to $9 for in-flight snacks, and in the article “Airlines’ fees for surfboards are dinging surfers,” Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Peter Pae reports that some airlines are charging up to $300 for surfboards. Can you believe British Airways banned surfboards altogether? Here’s a sampling of what it will cost you to bring your sports gear on your next flight.
Downtown L.A. | Move over, Takeru Kobayashi: The Gyoza Eating Championship at the annual Nisei Week celebration that culminates this weekend will feature Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti and Rich “the Locust” LeFevre eating their way to a potential world record. The goal: more than 212 dumplings in 10 minutes. Reigning champ Joey “the Jaws” Chestnut will be there to defend his title. When: Aug. 23, 2008, at 12:30 p.m. at JACCC Plaza.
