This morning we have travel-news tidbits that’ll take you from Paris all the way to our own local — and yes, snow-kissed, thanks partly to modern technology — mountains.
France | “Bonaparte and Egypt,” an art exhibit currently on at Institut du Monde Arab in Paris, explores Napoleon Bonaparte’s invasion and brief occupation of Egypt. Read all about it in “EGYPT: Paris exhibit chronicles Napoleon’s encounter with the Pharaohs” on the Los Angeles Times blog Babylon & Beyond. The exhibit runs until March 2009.
Peru | Peru has accused an Ivy League school of fraudulence in its holding of more than 40,000 Inca artifacts. Read “Peru takes Yale University to court over Machu Picchu Inca relics taken a century ago.”
NYC | A stay across from Madison Square Garden for $139 (pre-tax) per night, for a well-equipped (e.g., free WiFi) room? Indeed, it is possible. The New Yorker Hotel, at 34th Street and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan, is offering that head-turning rate in January and February, and it’ll throw in a free Continental breakfast too. See the hotel’s website or call (800) 764-4680.
Local | Time to break out those skis and snowboards. Good times in Big Bear are about to get truly underway this morning. Read “Snow-making jumpstarts ski season in Southern California.”
