Roundup: Myrtle Beach on Twitter + Sun News fire photo gallery; Lightning strikes in Philly and BMI

Smoke from a wildfire is seen on South Carolina Highway 90 near Conway, S.C.. The wildfire is being fanned by high winds with walls of smoke blowing over some of the busiest tourist spots in coastal South Carolina.

Fire news | A fire is burning in North Myrtle Beach. The fire has already consumed 23 square miles and 70 homes. About 2,500 people in Barefoot Landing were evacuated. Shelters have been set up at North Myrtle Beach City Hall and the House of Blues at Barefoot Landing, as well as the Tilly Swamp Baptist Church. Airline news | Two planes approaching Philadelphia International Airport were struck by lightning. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, one was US Airways Flight 1036 coming back from the Caribbean (7 p.m. Wednesday), the other was an AirTran plane (6:22 Wednesday).  On Tuesday, United Airlines Flight 593 leaving Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport  was struck by lightning about 7 p.m. All three planes landed safely, and no passengers were hurt.

    I spoke with T-Bones in Murrells Inlet, SC today, 4-23-2009. There is now a state of emergency. The fire was on the North Of Myrtle Beach SC it skipped over the road and I know 2 buildings-business were on fire and contained in Barefoot Landing. Hwy 90 and hwy 31 closed down. If you leave you cannot return. I lived there and called to check. Not Good
