Roundup: L.A. BBQ Festival in Santa Monica; paparazzi wars; no Euorostar service through Chunnel today

Good morning, travelers.

Los Angeles | Who says we have to stop grilling just because the kids have gone back to school? Get inspired to improve your grilling (or use better sauce) at the The Los Angeles BBQ Festival. It’s going on this weekend Sept. 14-15, 2008, noon–6 p.m. at the Santa Monica Beach north parking lot, next to the pier. Sample the wares of pit masters from Kansas City, Missouri; Texas; Mississippi and, of course, our own local BBQ masters from L.A. Cost: $10 gets you in, but the baby-back ribs, beef brisket and other foods are extra. You can see what each stand is serving on its website.

Celeb travel | By now you’ve heard about rapper Kanye West and his road manager getting busted at LAX yesterday for smashing paparazzi cameras, according to authorities. No? Here’s the video. L.A. now gives us a quick recap of who has been stuck in the paparazzi wars and how some of them escaped.

Chunnel update| Eurostar reports that there will be no service between the UK and the Continent today due to the fire that shut down the undersea Channel Tunnel Thursday. Travelers with tickets for today can exchange their tickets for a refund, or travel on another date. Sky News has the story about how the drivers had to smash their way out of the burning train.
